My attorney has an answer machine, where as my friend’s attorney has a secretary. Both were not in at the time. The secrectary gave some alternatives, passed the message, was just seem like at pleasant experience. Mine experience had thinking maybe he’s not a good attorney. Does having a secretary make a difference?

It does not indicate his competency. It may indicate his prosperity – not interdependant in law.
Be sure your attorney has enough experience to properly represent you. Perhaps you have lower fees because he doesn’t have that overhead.

I think it does. In a professional business, you are going to have a lot of clients that want information and answers. You can’t get that from an answering machine. It feels a lot warmer talking to a human being rather then a machine. Most definitely!

I love the old days when you had a small simple question and some body was on the line in two seconds you got the answer to your question in two seconds to three minutes and you were done. No I don,t like machines because they make feel like the company does not care about their customers.

The fact your attorney has an answering machine in lieu of a secretary should not be the meter stick of his ability to be an effective attorney. All it means is he’s too cheap to have labor.
Does having a secretary answer the phone on his behalf represent a more pleasant experinece? Most definitely yes. It becomes personal. A person speaking with you and interacting with you. Sometimes this same persin is able to answer the very question you may have been calling for an answer from the attorney or at least you feel if you expressed a sense of urgency for a response back that she will then place you further up the list of call backs or may even go as far to contact him on his cell number if she feels it warrants immediate attention vs. waiting for him to return to the office.
A machine’s use is simply what it is: it accepts messages waiting for the moment of someone to retrieve the message with the hopes the retriever copied the information you provided accurately so the other person will return your call because once your message is heard, your message is promptly erased to never be heard of again
